Charlie Bliss (Chaz), the founder of Cheshunt ABC sadley past away on February 4th 2007 at the age of 82. The following is a statement made by Mick Davidson (Club Press Officer) at the new gym's official opening. He gave a fitting description of the man who was adored and loved by friends, family, everyone associated to the club and through out UK amateur boxing.
“Our Charlie Bliss was actually a founding member of more than one boxing club, the idea of kids not having something positive to do with their time would have been a ridiculous theory for him to even contemplate. Over some fifty or so years, he gave everything for nothing. A seriously generous man with a heart of gold, his example of selfless service should be studied very closely by those claiming to offer the same. If a mans social standing could be measured by those who will genuinely miss him, then we have just buried a king, "Some may dream of wealth they can keep, but the greatest gift is to lye an angel to sleep" – Good night Charlie, - THANKS MATE.”
I am also a boxer at the club and Charlie Bliss was truely an amazing guy. Please click 'here' if you wish to read some funny stories left by people who knew Charlie.
